Maui – Big wave surfing
When big wave tow surfing first came about the soul surf community became outraged by these guys fanging around the ocean using jet-skis to get into waves that were not possible to paddle into by conventional means. Using the name of legendary water man Eddie Aikau they came up with the slogan “Eddie wouldn’t Tow” a take off of “Eddie would GO” this even became bumper stickers that were seen across the world. Then came the groups tow rivals who came back with “Eddie would TOW” and so it goes on. While tow surfing into giant waves has changed the way of surfing, there are more uses for a jet-ski. Take those small days at your local that are only mildly rideable on a mal. By using a jet-ski to gain initial speed lots of fun can be had. Mind you there are still the hand full of haters that will complain about this as well. Do it at an uninhabited beach and without other surfers in the water and you could ad some fun to a day that would otherwise go un-surfed. But going back to the first initial remark, Yes Eddie wouldn’t tow. Not on days like this he would have been working on his tan, lazing under some palm tree somewhere or perhaps swimming between Hawaiian islands for fitness. But hey its winter here and we would TOW!
