Quiksilver and Red Bull Announce the World Premiere of August 6 Screening and After Party to Kick-Off 22-City U.S. Film Tour Special Guests Include Surf Icons Bruce Irons, Taj Burrow, Mick Fanning and Dane Reynolds -
Huntington Beach, Calif. - ‘Scratching The Surface,’ the highly anticipated first feature-length HD surf film starring Julian Wilson, debuts next month with a red carpet premiere party on Friday, August 6 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Samueli Theatre. By opening the night to a select number of fans of all ages, Julian wanted to create an event that would include a solid representation from the general public in addition to surf industry friends. Julian’s sponsors, including Quiksilver, Red Bull, Oakley and DC Shoes, have teamed up to produce the world premiere in Orange County and additional events and contests for fans during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach and at stops throughout the film’s U.S. national tour.
“I’m really proud of this film and grateful I had the opportunity to create something unique in surf filmmaking,” said Julian. “I wanted to make a film before I got sucked into full-time competition and the demanding schedule that goes along with it. So instead of competing last year, I put my heart and soul into this project because I didn’t know when I’d ever get the chance again.” Directed by Matt Beauchesne at Irons Brothers Productions, “Scratching the Surface” documents the adventures of Julian, along with friends and fellow professionals Dane Reynolds, Taj Burrow, Dusty Payne, Mick Fanning and others as they spend a year hitting some of the world’s most beautiful surf spots. Destinations include South Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, California, Hawaii, France, Spain and Brazil. A large part of the film was also shot in the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia on a boat trip with Dane, Dusty and Taj. “Scratching The Surface” also teamed Julian and Matt with Brain Farm Cinema, whose goal was to evolve the way surf films are made by utilizing helicopters and The Phantom Camera, shooting entirely in HD, and incorporating an energetic and unique soundtrack. To get an early peek of this groundbreaking film, the “Scratching The Surface” trailer and webisodes can be viewed at www.julianwilson.com. “Our goal with this film was to be creative, have fun, and enjoy capturing what it is like to be Julian Wilson,” says Matt Beauchesne. “Julian has a bright and vibrant personality that we wanted to carry over into the film’s overall feel. He is living every kid’s dream and we wanted to shoot this film through his eyes.” Scratching The Surface Tour Dates:
