Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior ASP Grade 5 Pro junior Men’s event Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior set to open the 2010 ASP Season at Bells Beach The 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) season is set to open in great surf at the Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior running on Victoria’s Surfcoast beginning this Sunday January 3rd. With thousands of summer holiday makers enjoying the magnificent Surfcoast in Victoria the crowds will be well entertained watching the future of Australian surfing competing in the first event of the Australasian professional surfing season. Competitors are the very best of Australasia’s 20 year and under surfers all aiming for a great opening result to the ASP Australasian 10 event Pro Junior Series season. The ASP Pro Junior circuit is surfing’s major stepping-stone to open professional surfing. An added bonus for the Pro Junior Men’s winner of this year’s Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior will be a wild-card into the Quiksilver Pro Trials and the opportunity to surf in the Quiksilver Pro ASP World Tour event on the Gold Coast which begins February 27th 2010. Victoria’s Surfcoast’s most famous surf break is Bells Beach, host to the longest running ASP World Tour event every Easter and while Autumn and Spring are prime season for surf at Bells, summer swells are often excellent and past years at the Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior have seen Bells deliver many excellent days of surf. The event also boasts an envious honour roll of previous winners like Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, Joel Parkinson and Dean Morrison!
Exciting early news for next week’s event is that long range weather and swell forecasts indicate a great ground swell arriving for the start of the event and hopefully maintaining right through the events waiting period. Number one seed in the Pro Junior Men’s is South Coast NSW charger Dean Bowen and he would love nothing more than massive waves at Bells to begin this year’s campaign. “ I’m totally comfortable surfing Bells when it’s big” claimed Bowen. “In fact I find it way better when it’s big rather than small, the wave faces allow plenty of scope to score and I hope this approaching swell really pushes hard – it will be a great way to start the year!” Pro Junior Women’s number one seed Laura Enever is also accomplished surfing solid waves at Bells having won many events over the past few seasons on the famous Bells Beach bowl. Just some of the surfers with high expectations on this year’s Australasian Pro Junior Series include Garrett Parkes (Byron Bay), Chris Friend (Sunshine Coast), Blake Ainsworth (Gold Coast), Todd Rosewell (Jan Juc), Davey Cathels (North Narrabeen), Brent Savage (Casuarina), Jordi and Ty Watson (Sth Coast NSW), Justin Turk (Coff’s Harbour), Tyler Wright (Lennox Head), Laura Enever (Nth Narrabeen), Ellie – Jean Coffey (Crescent Head), Felicity Palmeteer (WA), Nikki Van Dijk (Phillip Island) and Philippa Anderson (Newcastle). A number of international surfers have entered including Kiron Jabour (Hawaii), Maxine Huscenot (France), Matt Hewitt (NZ) and Nao Omura from Japan. With around 160 of Australasia’s very best 20 year and under surfers competing it will be a huge week of quality surfing beginning Sunday and running through to Thursday January 7th.
